After much anticipation, consternation, perspiration, exasperation, comes now, Elation!!
Rachel and Cody are married. And it was a fine launch. There’s really nothing much to say, except how pleased I am with the two of them as a couple. They talk to each other about everything. They consider one another in every personal choice. They share both their problems and their joys.
If they keep that up, they’ll still be together many years from now. They’re off to a great start. Here are some photos from last night:

Rachel and Cody - First dance as Mr. & Mrs.

It’s funny how different people react to weddings. Suprisingly, I wasn’t emotional at all, even though I expected to be. I guess I’m just content with whole idea of Rachel and Cody being married. He’s a great guy to call “Son-In-Law”!! And his family is fantastic. What great friends we will all be in years to come.

The Two Dads - Paul and Darrell
It was great to see so many of Rachel’s friends come to join in the fun, including our dear Dr. Sam Delchad and wife Laal who drove over from San Diego. We love them greatly. Their son Kamal has grown into one of the best wedding photographers I know and so, of course, he was there too, working. (We tried to feed him well.) And Nina Firooz also came over from California! What a great job she did singing for the ceremony! My brother Pat, his wife Jody and their kids Emma and Ian made the trip from Virginia as did my niece Amy (my sister’s daughter). My mother Katy was there from Virginia and our old family friends, Paul and Joyce Bengtson, who now live in Gold Canyon, AZ.
My favorite part was dancing with my daughter to the sound of Red Grammer’s “Flight” (it’s on his album “Soul Man in a Techno World” – check it out!) And as we danced, Cody danced with his lovely mother, Rae. What a delightful picture!

We had Aunts (a BUNCH of them) and Uncles and Cousins from Illinois, Virginia, West (by God) Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and of course, Arizona. And everybody danced!!

Paul, Cody's father, can keep up the best of them!

The tip of a tall Eucalyptus tree, far across the street, had lost about 6-feet of the end of a branch. The wind had apparently snapped the 2-inch diameter branch and set it flying like a huge lawn dart across the road and down into my roof. I could see how, after impaling the roof, it must have flopped over, thereby prying up the plywood sheathing under the punctured shingles. I removed it and revealed a hole about 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. I found some spare shingles I had left in the storage room, and some roofing nails, and covered the hole temporarily. The roof repair estimates start coming in tomorrow. The Insurance agent is standing by (hoping it doesn’t exceed my deductible).
Meanwhile, here in Casa Grande, the rain did what I expected and turned my back yard into a mud pit. Rocket, our dog, looked like he was wearing brown moon-boots as he returned from the yard. Now I can really appreciate the tile floors. I will likely get around to spreading crushed stone after the rains have ended, but hey, better late than never.
