Here’s a Video Web Log (VLOG #10) about our recent celebration of Deb’s 50th birthday. When I turned 50, I gave a concert in San Diego and billed it as the “11th anniversary of my 39th birthday”. I didn’t really want to use the big “five-oh”. But my dear bride Deb is different. Her early life was quite hard and it seemed she would not survive to 20, and certainly never to 30. But here she is, still standing at 50 – and thriving! It’s a victory over the evil that assaulted her all the days of her young life, and one of the things that makes her special.
Abdu’l-Baha said “We must endeavor to free the soil of the hearts from useless weeds and sanctify it from the thorns of worthless thoughts in order that the cloud of mercy may bestow its power upon us.” (Abdu’l-Baha, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, p. 195)
I believe that suffering is a plowshare that tills the thorns and thistles from the soil of our hearts and makes us ready for divine seeds. I think my bride’s heart is pure soil because of such suffering. The time has come to sow some seeds of joy and happiness. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Deb!!
