Here’s a song wrote about 4 years ago after moving to Tucson. I introduce it as a “war protest” song, but it’s actually a tribute to those military veterans who return home with deep mental and emotional scars.
This is a song about a fictional veteran, but not as fictional as one might think. The ravages of war on the human mind incur casualties that might not be readily seen. To many young veterans self medicate to the extreme – suicide. This is my way of saying “stop and think hard” before we extend our battle lines further. Since I wrote this song, we’ve added Libya to our repertoire. Can anyone rule out Tehran from the target list?
We had some significant problems with the sound system on this one (and the next as well). I asked the engineer to turn up my monitor level for the guitar, instead he cranked up the PA. Oh well, we got ‘er done.
